How to test your controller
- Connect your Xbox, PlayStation, Switch Pro or USB controller by cable or Bluetooth.
- Press any button. Browsers only show a controller after it has been used once.
- Press every button and trigger. Each fills up teal while pressed; triggers show how far they're pressed.
- Move both joysticks in full circles, then let go and check they return to the centre.
How to check for joystick drift
Stick drift is when the joystick reports movement while you're not touching it. Let go of both sticks and look at the axis values: they should stay close to 0.00. Values that stay above about 0.10 mean the stick is drifting, which causes your character or camera to move on its own.
How to fix stick drift
- Clean around the stick with isopropyl alcohol and rotate it several times.
- Recalibrate the controller in Windows (Set up USB game controllers › Properties) or in Steam.
- Increase the dead zone in your game settings.
- If drift continues, the joystick module needs replacing. Many controllers are covered by warranty for drift.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my controller not detected?
Press a button after connecting; browsers hide controllers until they are used. Also check the cable supports data (not just charging) and try Chrome or Edge.
Can I test a PS5 or PS4 controller here?
Yes. DualSense and DualShock controllers work over USB or Bluetooth in Chrome and Edge. Button names are shown for both Xbox and PlayStation layouts.
Does vibration testing work for all controllers?
Vibration depends on browser support. It works for most Xbox and PlayStation controllers in Chrome and Edge.
