How to test your mouse

  1. Move the pointer into the box above.
  2. Click the left, right and middle (wheel) buttons one by one. Each part of the mouse picture lights up.
  3. If your mouse has side buttons, press Back and Forward. The page stops them from navigating away.
  4. Scroll the wheel up and down. The arrows flash and the counters go up.

What the results mean

A button that never lights up is not being detected. That could be a hardware fault, a driver problem, or a button remapped in the mouse software. If Double clicks keeps rising when you only click once, your switch may be wearing out. Run the Double Click Test to confirm it.

If the scroll wheel jumps in the wrong direction, or counts up when you scroll down, the wheel encoder may be dirty. A few blasts of compressed air often fix it.

Frequently asked questions

How do I test my mouse buttons online?

Open this page and click every mouse button inside the test box. Each button that works lights up and its counter increases. Scroll the wheel to test scrolling.

Can this test the side buttons on my gaming mouse?

Yes. Buttons 4 and 5 (Back and Forward) are detected. Extra buttons that your mouse software maps to keys or macros may not show here.

Why does my mouse scroll in the wrong direction?

Scroll jumping is usually caused by dust in the wheel encoder or a worn encoder. Clean it with compressed air. If that does not help, the encoder may need replacing.
