Webcam not working? Try this
- Privacy shutter: many laptops (HP, Lenovo, Dell) have a slider over the camera or a camera key such as F8 or F10.
- Browser permission: click the lock icon in the address bar and set Camera to Allow.
- Windows privacy: open Settings › Privacy & security › Camera and turn on camera access.
- Camera in use: close Zoom, Teams, Skype or other apps that may be using the camera.
- Driver: in Device Manager, check Cameras or Imaging devices and update or reinstall the driver.
What do resolution and FPS mean?
720p (1280×720) is standard for laptop webcams, while 1080p (1920×1080) looks sharper in video calls. 30 FPS is normal; lower frame rates, especially in dim light, make video look choppy.
Frequently asked questions
Is this webcam test private?
Yes. The video is shown only in your browser and is never recorded or uploaded. Snapshots stay on your device unless you choose to save them.
Why is my webcam showing a black screen?
Usually a privacy shutter is closed, another app is using the camera, or camera access is blocked in Windows privacy settings.
Why is my frame rate low?
Webcams lower their frame rate in dim light to collect more light. Turn on more lights, or close other apps using the CPU.
